Approaching Year Five

We have seen the shirt colors change from white to purple to black to green to navy/orange and are starting to grasp that four years have passed since Ben Potter and myself sat at Piedmont High School and created this holiday. The last Friday in April has truly become a joy for all of us involved in IJGIAD.

This year will be no exception. On April 25, 2008, we will proudly wear our t-shirts for the fifth straight year. Discussions of t-shirt designs and colors are currently underway. By all means, this can be an open discussion: we welcome any and all suggestions/ ideas about t-shirt colors and designs. Most of what makes this holiday so great is the involvement and generosity of YOU.

We don't yet have an official International Jungle Gym Injury Awareness Day email domain; but you are welcome to email me (plea2@elon.edu) with questions or concerns. We will certainly keep you posted on all the exciting news about the upcoming holiday, including pre-order dates and benefit concert information. Until then, feel free to check out holiday information from our Facebook page at http://elon.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2222651458. Also, you may get more information on our benefactor, St. Jude Children's Hospital at www.stjude.org.

Thanks! Take care!

A Bright Future...

Three years have now gone by since this holiday was first born. Over 450 t-shirts have been sold, raising over $400 for St. Jude Children's Hospital. Its hard to believe that we have had nearly 275 students and 25 faculty members who have continuously showed their support for giving promise and hope to a brighter future. Our hope is to continue to evolve this great cause into something bigger than numbers or words can describe.
Every single one of the eight members of The International Jungle Gym Injury Awareness Day Committee has graduated from Piedmont High School, and will be continuing their education in different colleges in North Carolina. While some may look at this with dim spirits concerning the ongoing existence and future for this wonderful holiday in and around Piedmont, we have taken the opposite approach. In fact, we have developed a new plan to ensure the holiday's epic stature not only in Piedmont's walls, but in all the institutions of higher learning the group has now moved into. Efforts are currently being made with parties from our committee and Piedmont High School to allow the traditional holiday festivities to take place, even if our committee members cannot be present. A system that will run through homeroom will allow every student the opportunity to buy a t-shirt, make a donation, and become aware of jungle gym injury and the measures that can be taken to help. Since I.J.G.I.A.D. has now become a non-profit organization, it will be able to function as a school related club and thus have access to school funds, allowing better t-shirts and more merchandise. Better shirts and more merchandise mean a brighter future for supplying aid to those fallen victim of jungle gym injury and fighting against such incidents in the future.
All of this information may be a lot to digest all at once. We encourage you to read through this blog a few times and if you have any questions or comments at all, do not hesitate to leave a comment on the site or e-mail us at peyton3388@msn.com. We thank you for taking the time to read through what we've had to say, and we ask that if you haven't already become part of the fight against jungle gym injury, do it before it's too late.
